Vampire academy richelle mead /the mediator by meg cabot?

Did anyone else notice how Vampire academy series by Richelle Mead and the mediator series by meg cabot are kind of similiar: Vampire academy is about vampires and the mediator is about ghosts, but there are other similarities as well, like: the main characters, both rose(vampire academy) and suze (mediator) are sy with attidude and they both fall in love with an older foreign guy. Suze has Adam and CiCi as her bfs while rose has Lissa and mason. Also Mason has a crush on Rose and Adam h a crush on Suze, these are just a couple of things, but did anyone else notice this, or was it just me.
