Woodpeckers?

There are quite a few woodpeckers where I live and then peck on my house. I'll throw a shoe or something at them but they don't seem to care at all. I don't intend to hurt them for all the animal lovers out there, I just don't anything else to do about them. Is there any sprays or power, your anything else I can do to stop them from pecking my house?
