My sparkler bombs are duds.?

So I get a bunch of sparklers tape them together and use a sparkler as a fuse, but then I light them the end blows out so it doesn't really explode. It does shoot off like a small rocket, but that's not what I want. I've tried putting lots of tape, aluminum foil and/or paper on the end, but still no BOOM... help
