What would be the best investments for me?

I am a 68 year old female, and would like to get some input from a financial planner or adviser. I have a diversified portfolio but have lost a great deal of money. What advice would you give me? I keep hearing stay with what you have. I may not have anything to stay with if this economy does not get better. Please advise!!!!
